Puppy Raiser Requirements

Senior and Junior Puppy Raiser Supervisors:

Rebecca Bradley and Katie Hiller

Requirements:

-Must be an AGS member

-Complete an application
(download from website)

-Turn in application via e-mail
or at AGS cube in Koldus

-Attend 1-hour puppy raiser
orientation

-Complete 6 training hours
observing puppy training classes

-Complete 13 hours of service at Brazos
Animal Shelter (includes 1 hour shelter
orientation)

-Watch two Teamwork training videos

-Pass written test on puppy care, training, & AGS regulations

-Pass training skills evaluation

-Pass home inspection & interview

-Obtain letters of approval from roommates, landlord, hall director, RA

 

Responsibilities:

-Be able and willing to house a growing puppy for 12-18 months

-Be able and willing to pay for all puppy expenses… premium food, vet bills, training classes, and any supplies

-Provide a safe, healthy environment for the puppy

-Attend AGS meetings, weekly socializations, puppy outings, and approved training classes

-Follow AGS guidelines on jacket use and never abuse your privilege

-Train the puppy with positive reinforcement – NEVER hit the puppy or use harsh methods & tools

-Send weekly reports and monthly letters to PR Supervisor

-Understand AGS may confiscate a puppy at any time if you fail to fulfill your duties

-Return the puppy to AGS at the completion of its training
